Graduate students in the Department of Mathematics are typically employed in one of the following roles:
Reader/Grader
Teaching Assistant (TA)/Instructional Assistant (IA)
Graduate Student Researcher (GSR)
Less commonly, a student may be employed as an Associate-In (AI)
Reader/Grader, Teaching Assistant, and Associate-In positions employed at a level above 25% employment are eligible for certain benefits, including health insurance and partial payment of tuition and fees. The Department provides payment of Nonresident Supplemental Tuition for Mathematics PhD students as indicated in the offer letter. Graduate Student Researchers employed at a level of 25% or more are also eligible for benefits including health insurance, and payment of Tuition and Fees.
Students may apply for Teaching Assistant and Associate-In positions during the recruitment cycle prior to each quarter. Notice of the opening of the application period is provided to Math students by email.
